Aceh is an autonomous special district of Indonesia located in north Sumatra. There are around 4.2 million Acehnese who are considered some of the most devout Muslims in Indonesia.
This unreached people group became the first Muslim stronghold in Indonesia in the 13th century. They been instrumental in spreading Islam in Indonesia and surrounding countries. Their special autonomy allows them to apply Islamic (Shari’a) law instead of Indonesian law in certain cases. It is often said that “to be Aceh is to be Muslim.” So the Acehnese have strongly opposed other Acehnese who have converted to other religions. There are 0.12% Christian and 0.00% Evangelical Acehnese.
On December 26, 2004, Aceh was hit by the catastrophic tsunami which took 120,000 lives. They are still in need of reconstruction and rehabilitation after 17 years. One of the most famous attractions in Aceh is the Tsunami Museum in the capital that is a monument and education center.
~ Prayers for Aceh ~
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5
- Pray for the Acehnese to have a living hope in Jesus and believe he died to pay for their sins and rose from the dead.
- They would understand the weight of their sin and that doing good works doesn’t erase their sins
- Acehnese brothers and sisters in Christ would understand the imperishable inheritance they have in Jesus. Pray for boldness to share the gospel with their people so that more will hear and believe.
